First NLE to Natively and Cost-Effectively Capture, Edit, and Output High Definition Video

Torrance, CA - Leveraging its industry-leading competency in real-time MPEG editing, Ulead Systems today introduced the Ulead HD plug-in, the first video editing technology to natively edit HDV, a format of high definition video, at a quarter of the cost of competing software. The Ulead HD Plug-in equips videographers who own the JVC GR-HD1 and the JVC JY-HD10 camcorders with the tools to capture, edit, and output high-resolution HDV content within MediaStudio Pro 7, Ulead’s professional video editing software. Using the Ulead HD Plug-in, MediaStudio Pro 7 handles HDV content seamlessly without requiring additional tools or interfaces. The Ulead HD Plug-in is now available at www.ulead.com for $299.

"Ulead has long been at the forefront of bringing sophisticated video editing technology to consumers and professionals," says JVC Vice President of Marketing, Robert Harris. "With its expertise in MPEG editing technology, Ulead is solidly positioned to make the high-resolution HDV format accessible to all videographers. We’re pleased that software companies such as Ulead are collaborating with JVC to make HDV a viable format."

The HDV format spec, which was recently established by Canon Inc., Sharp Corporation, Sony Corporation, and Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC), enables consumer and professional videographers to record and play back high-definition video on standard DV and mini DV cassette tapes. The HDV format provides far higher video recording quality than offered by current digital video camcorders.

"The launch of our HD plug-in for MediaStudio Pro 7 is just the first step to making higher resolution quality video something that everyone can enjoy," says Chairman of Ulead Systems, Way-Zen Chen. "As the HDV format takes hold, we plan to incorporate HDV support throughout our DVD and video software product lines."
