Cutting camcorder costs
Panasonic's AG-DVX100 still draws raves for quality and its 24p chops. But why pay extra for film-style shooting capability if you don't need it? That's just what Panasonic addresses with the AG-DVC80, a 1/3in. three-CCD DV PROLINE. While the new camcorder only records in 60i, it lists at an $800 lower tab than the DVX100. The DVC80 uses the same crisp, wide-angle Leica Dicomar, a 10X f/1.6 zoom lens. Other features include auto/manual focus; servo/manual zoom (with zoom clutch stops and barrel markings); and a 72mm filter size. Don't forget the FireWire interface; flexible Scene Files (stores different “looks”); XLR audio inputs; 3.5in. LCD screen; and Optical Image Stabilization.
