Particle producer

Alan Lorence developed Impulse's Illusion line of particle effects software, which debuted in 1998. Recently he founded Wondertouch, which acquired the rights to the software and renamed it particleIllusion. The sprite-based effects software, released in a 3.0 version this month, has a strong presence in Hollywood, but a down-to-earth price tag. (A limited SE version — missing multi-layer functionality and some import/export features — sells for $99.) A standalone program, particleIllusion features hundreds of customizable preset effects, such as smoke, fire, explosions, water effects, and sparkles. OpenGL hardware acceleration proves realtime or near-realtime preview of most effects and quick rendering of final output.
